Acupuncture

.

Acupuncture is an ancient therapy, originating in far eastern countries, particularly China, where written records of its existence have been found which date back 3000 years. The treatment consists of inserting very fine, hair-like needles to a shallow depth into specific points on the skin.

Traditional acupuncture has its own method of diagnosis, which is based on an appraisal of the whole person, making it a very individualistic and holistic treatment.

Central to the philosophy of Acupuncture is that of balance: 'Qi' (pronounced 'Chee') is the vital life force within us, and flows around the body and through the internal organs in meridians or channels. When a disorder arises, it is because of an interruption to the smooth balance of this flow.

Yin and Yang are also fundamental to Chinese medicine philosophy. Again, these are related to balance. Yin is quiet, cool, dark, and moves downwards, while Yang is lively, warm, light, and moves upwards. In good health, both are working in harmony and keep each other in balance. However, if either is too weak or too strong, it will adversely affect the other, and an imbalance results, leading to a health problem.

Our Acupuncturist Robert Geddes is also a trained Bateyko Therapist (as recommended by the Thoracic Society. He specialises in treating Asthma, Arthritis, Back Pain, Knee Pain, Migraine, Insomnia, Frozen Shoulder, Sinusitis, Sciatica, Repetitive Strain Injury and Sports Injuries.
